Objectives - Emergency Medicine

Emergency Medicine is a broad discipline that encompasses the acute presentations and life threatening events of all the different subspecialities in medicine and surgery.

The objectives for this course are aimed at providing an introduction to emergency medicine and its common presentations.

By the end of the emergency medicine rotation, you should be able to;
  1. Assess and manage patients presenting with chest pain.
  2. Assess and manage patients  presenting with shortness of breath.
  3. Assess and manage patients with altered mental state.
  4. Assess and manage patients with abdominal pain.
  5. Understand the concepts of basic trauma care.
  6. Understand the importance of effective communication between medical staff, patients and their relatives.
  7. Be able to provide effective basic and advanced life support.
  8. Assess non-critical patients, and discuss their management with other emergency medical staff.
  9. Complete procedural skills as outlined in your course requirements.
